Veterinary medicine can be quite the wild ride. From routine spay/neuter procedures to 4 ear infection cases in a row to exploratory surgeries...we really do have the opportunity to do it all. I love being in general practice. There are days when you only see allergy cases, ear infections, and fleas fleas FLEAS (not bitter or anything), but there are other days when you get to perform new procedures and see intensive cases (more my speed).

Recently, I've seen some interesting cases. Bloodwork that comes back extremely abnormal, metal springs stuck in dogs' mouths, emergency surgeries, etc. My favorite recently have included a few surgical cases.

I removed a large mammary mass from a rat- yes, a rat. The tumor was considerably large when compared to the size of the rat.

I had an older Husky present for vomiting/diarrhea. Vomited up a sock the night before. Abnormal radiographs and barium study- went to exploratory surgery. Ended up performing an intestinal resection and anastomosis of a piece of small intestine. Very nerve wracking and exciting all at the same time! Husky is doing well 8 days post-op, so fingers crossed! A little tidbit on the procedure if you're interested:

Anyway, I love being a veterinarian and it truly is a wild ride. It makes it all worth it when you get notes like this from appreciative clients:
